Trinity Weekend Celebrations

Festival of Holy Trinity Sunday, 30th May 2010.

On a glorious sunny day the congregation assembled before the 11am Service; some sitting outside to enjoy the sunshine and others moving inside to appreciate the different interior of our Church.

Those sitting outside had a chance to appreciate and comment on the progress made in the garden since their last visit, some being stunned at the difference but nevertheless pleased with what they saw.

Trinity CakeNeil, Andrew and Judith co celebrated the Birthday of Holy Trinity. Three candles decorated in red and white ribbons were placed behind the Birthday cakes in front of the pulpit, (see photograph) and were lit at the start of the service, which otherwise was a normal Eucharist celebration.

Neil had blessed the candles and cakes, and we were delighted to have a young member in the congregation to come and blow out the candles which she did, one at a time, first puff. She scampered back to her family with a big smile on her face having achieved first time success in a big task!

The cake was taken away by help and cut into portions so it could be enjoyed by those present at the reception.

Saturday 29th May 2010. A Bring and Share Supper.

Some 26 or so attended the supper which was held in the Old Library.

A new AccordionBefore the meal started there was a visit, organised by Fr Neil, by the group and the accordionist whose instrument the Church had replaced following the Disaster of the previous February. Originally there were three musicians coming but we actually were entertained by no less than ten! Four singers, one drummer, three accordionists, of which one was a young boy with his own "small" instrument and two guitarists. We were entertained for about half an hour including a short solo on the new Hohner accordion by its owner. When the group had left, with our thanks, Judith was invited to say grace before we went to get our meals in the Ranalow Room. Meats, salads, quiche, coleslaw, green and other salads and dressings were available.

t was an occasion of fellowship to celebrate Holy Trinity Church's Patronal Festival.

When the first course was completed we followed "school rules" to clear the plates and cutlery from tables to the kitchen where help promptly despatched them to the dishwasher.

Sweets were set out on the long table by the ladies to replace the main course food, (of which very little remained). Pies, tarts, cheesecake, ice cream and fruit salad had been brought by participants.

Good fellowship and delicious food was enjoyed by all and at the end of the evening we cleared everything and reset the Old Library for the next day which was Holy Trinity Sunday. (See our report).

Lent, Holy Week and Easter 2010.

Easter FlowersEaster Flowers

It has been a difficult and sometimes frustrating time for us this year. As you can imagine, the events of Saturday 20th February the day of the terrible rains and flooding and subsequent devastation of many parts of this beautiful island will stay long in our memories, and that was just the beginning of Lent. We had joined together on the previous Wednesday morning for the Ashing service. It was a day of heavy rain, like so many since the beginning of December, but this did not deter a good number of people coming to the service, many of whom were our visitors. We commenced our Lent groups, three of them, and hoped that we could all spend this valuable time together in reflection, contemplation and prayer in these group settings. But events changed all this, with the warnings to us to stay off the roads, and the weather also had its way with us with days of further heavy rain, and so the Lent groups really did suffer. In addition personal difficulties affected one group, but in the end, we are sure that God will not hold this against us - we tried! Coming into Holy Week as this is being written, we prepare ourselves for Good Friday with services on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and then the wonderful thought of the decoration of the church to be bright with flowers again and the Easter Garden and the joy of Easter Day. Our thanks once again to all those who have contributed, supported, been involved in each and every one of the parts of the build up to this very special Festival in the Church Year.
