Diary

We cannot hope to make Holy Trinity Church the centre of activity on an island developed for tourism, with all the other tourist attractions the island offers, but we try to offer a variety of activities and events which will provide a focus for the resident community and entertainment and fellowship for tourists. We have been helped enormously by the facts that we have a strong core of volunteers who provide their time and efforts free of charge and that our chaplains allow the church to be used for musical evenings which are not associated directly to a religious service. The benefit to the church from these latter performances is enormous: the church receives a donation for each performance, which is a substantial benefit to its funds, but how many of those attending these evenings then come to our church for a service? We don't know and we don't ask, but we are delighted that residents and non-residents, performers and audiences show by their attendance and support that they obviously enjoy the environment we offer.

Music at Holy Trinity

Friday 9.00pm. The Madeira Mandolin Orchestra, under the leadership of Senor Eurico Martins, has been performing in the church on Friday evenings since September 2005. His audiences have gone from strength to strength and Eurico now occasionally also performs midweek. Tickets are available at the door, at the Sunday morning stall and at the central Tourist Office in Funchal - €20.00.

Sunday 6.00pm. The Blue Danube Quartet. Three instrumentalists with vocal accompaniment, play a selection of popular classics and songs from the shows. Tickets €17,50 at the door.

The benefit to the church from these performances is incalculable: how many of those attending these musical evenings also come to church for a service? We don't know, but we are delighted that performers and audiences use and enjoy the environment we offer.
