More Promises Auctioned
After last years hugely successful Auction of Promises we were persuaded to do it all again! The hotel Porto Mare was so wonderful last time so it was a no brainer to return, and yes they did us proud, again, see the photo. The only problem, and you must have had this too, was people turning up late! So the Bucks Fizz kept on fizzing too long, and yes we were late into dinner and it was ten o´clock before the auction started, but, this being Madeira where everything starts late, it seemed not to matter. One comment from last time was too many promises to auction, so this year we cut them down to twenty five, were able to repeat some of the great ones like Neil doing another of his wonderful pencil works of your choice, last time Janet won and he did a truly gifted drawing of their house which we had on show to give people an idea! Another was a week in a cottage in the Lake District from a couple who came last time. A night at Reids Hotel, a vintage Madeira plus Blandy´s bicentenary new history, and how about home made christmas pudding, mince pies and brandy butter!
We missed you, but you are always in our thoughts. It is you Friends who are the backbone of Holy Trinity Church, thank you so much for your support, we look forward to 2012 together.
OK. How much did we raise and for what? It was 2300€ towards maintaining our very old organ, 1875, in the condition to which it has become accustomed. A good time was had by all in the best of all possible
venues, it was after midnight before we called it a day, or should that be night? Best wishes.
